Workshop Results!

It was a rainy Saturday afternoon... but inside the workshop room it was bright and full of colourful mosaics in the making.

Three very talented ladies joined the beginners workshop and it was a big success!

I am very proud of the results and can't wait to see the mosaics once they have been grouted.

Cost: 45 euro per person
Level: Beginner - we will work with glass tiles and nippers on MDF and I will also give you a brief introduction to working with Smalti.

At the end of the workshop you will go home with your own mosaic creation.

Children's Party Invites!

I have been busy playing with a children's party invitation design for a friend of mine.

It's been a lot of fun, working mostly on my iPad and on Photoshop Elements.

The theme was a "Pirate Party" for her soon to be 5 year old son :-)

Red Glitter Heart

I really love hearts.

This morning I spent some time making a decorative heart.
I used beautiful red glitter mini glass mosaic tiles.
They are just gorgeous and made the heart feel red hot and alive.

I'll grout it in a few days and then all it needs is a pretty string so it can hang anywhere... perhaps even on a christmas tree!

Zelfgemaakte Markt - What a day!

Today was the Zelfgemaakte Markt - gezellig!

A big thank you to everybody who came to see me at my stall.

It was a great experience and I have certainly learnt a lot.

Go away clouds! Please?

Today is the day that I plan on taking photos of all my work that will be at the market tomorrow.

But for some reason the weather is playing tricks on me.

I had the same problem yesterday.

Clouds, clouds go away, come again some other day (not tomorrow either!).

I need some natural light, pretty natural light, not dark skies.

If all goes well I will be putting up some photos on the blog soon - wish me luck!

Heart on my sleeve

It seems like I am having a heart filled week...

Less than two weeks to go...

Time is running out.
I am excited, but also a little apprehensive about the zelfgemaakte markt.
At least I have been really productive and I've made some pieces that I really like. But will anyone else like them?

How exciting is that!

Now I have no more excuses, I have to make some more mosaics this week and it is great to have a purpose.

Busy busy busy Elma

I have been very busy the last week.

It feels like I found inspiration and now I just want to create.

My every waking hour is spent thinking about new designs and ideas... I am obsessed.

This is a good thing, for now.

I even submitted an application to the zelfgemaakte markt for a stall in august. This is a market where only handmade products are sold and I am very excited about it. Their next market day is 23 July 2011 and that is too soon for me, so I am really hoping they accept my submission and let me have a stall to sell some mosaics on 20 August 2011.

Colour me happy

Since I am very new to blogging, I find myself browsing the net for ideas and tutorials.
My favourite site is puglypixel. She has the coolest stuff on there and I learn so much from her.

And yes, I should probably be using the time I spend online to make more mosaics. What can I say... if only I had more hours in a day?

I downloaded an iPhone app called colorscheme and it is so much fun. I really love my iPhone. It just feels like there is a world of colour out there and I wonder why I am only discovering it now.

Here is my first attempt at a colour palette based on the pot I made this week:

I did it!

Finally, I made something.

It is a pretty basic plant pot - not too big, ok that is an understatement. The pot is quite small but as my time was limited I had no choice.

It still needs to be grouted but that is going to have to wait for another day.

Finding pieces scattered around the house

This past week has been busy, and I regret to say I did not make anything.

I did, however, buy some basics needed to get started.
I bought some glue, plant pots and even a few tiles.
All I need to do now is make the time to start.

Scattered throughout our house I found pieces of my work.

I want to be s mosaic artist... I really do.

But I am scared.
Scared of failure.
Scared of success.

Be brave and start this journey.

Make something.
Use the jars full of tiles hidden away in the garage.
Create.
